If Only I Could Hate You Ep 10

Irena uses her gift to spend 5 hours with Micah, making him escort her to the senior dance. But Irena doesn't get the dream night she had anticipated.

Hello Ladies and Gents! I have another snazzy update for you! We are nearing the ending of Season 1 of IOICHY. There are only 2 more episodes left after this one! EEEP! It's going to be great! I promise! And if you have read the manga or watched any of the itza na kiss T.V series, then you may have an idea on where I will be ending this season. NO SPOILERS! :P

I won't keep you from reading any longer....that is if you are still with me as it is. BAHA!

"So, Micah" Carma said leaning against the table. "A little birdie told me that you plan on asking Nina to the senior dance?"
"Where did you hear that?" Micah asked.
"Well, I figured we could double. Me and Issac and you and Nina. It would be fun! I've even rented a limousine!"

"Do we really need to rent a limousine? I thought it would be nice if we could walk there together and talk?" Issac suggested.
Carma narrowed her eyes at him. "Excuse me? Walk... in heals? No way."
Issac released a heavy sigh, but didn't argue. His entire relationship with Carma had been this way and it never seemed to change.

Nina had strolled, hearing part of the conversation.
"Micah Dastin asking me to the senior dance?" Nina said with a smile. "I'm surprised I thought you would have thought high school dances to be too silly to attend. I don't think I ever have attended a high school dance nor do I think I will."
Nina was fishing for him to ask her to the dance or even better, a private date.

Behind their lunch table, Irena and Dakota could hear everything. Irena shifted uneasily in her chair as she overheard Nina trying to get a date out of Micah.

She knew she had told Nina that it was okay, but she still couldn't help but feel uneasy about the entire situation. If Nina and Micah were to get together, then Irena really would never get the chance to be with him, and that was something that she didn't want to happen.

Micah inhaled loudly.
"Nina is right, I don't attend such childish events. It's just an excuse for drinking and sex."
"Don't act like you're not a man," Joshua said with a laugh. "You may be smarter than the rest of us, but it would be just as hard for you to resist sex as any of us."
"I didn't say that." Micah said with a shrug. "I just don't put myself in that kind of situation."
"So what will you be doing on senior dance night," Nina asked with a hopeful smile.
"I'll be spending my evening studying. The exams are only a month away; I might as well."
A flash of disappointment spread across Nina's face as she heard his answer. They probably had the most compatibility and yet  he wasn't even acknowledging her advances.

"Ouch, Micah even turned Nina down." Dakota said scratching her head as they pulled their books from the locker.
"I don't know that he turned her down. I kinda think he was unaware." Irena said.
"Your such a pessimist."
"So you really think he turned her down then?" Irena said. A smile crept along her lips.
"Oh Irena. You are never going to get over that jerk are you?"
"Shush it!" She squeeled, lightly shoving her friend's shoulder.
"So what are you going to do then? You can't ask him to go to the dance. He already said he doesn't attend them."
Irena pondered for a moment. She couldn't force Micah to see her, but at the same time she thought she deserved a chance. Micah never gave her  a chance. Then a thought occurred to her. She did have five hours to spend with him that she received as a Christmas gift from him.
"I think I have an idea." Irena told Dakota.

When Irena got home she was quick to jump on her plan.
"Oh Micah!" She said sauntering over to him. "I have something to discuss with you!"
He laid his books on the table and sighed. What ever could she want, he thought.
"So, I still have your Christmas gift and I would like to redeem it!"

"I have a feeling I know where this is heading," Micah said rubbing his head.
"I want you to take me to the Senior Dance!" His guess was right.
"Come on Irena. Why do you want me to take you to the dance. Do you really want people to think that we are together?"
"No.... but I don't want to look pathetic and not have a date either." Irean said, her eyes to the floor.
"Sorry Irena, but I don't do high school dances."

"Micah, you can't do takies backies on a Christmas gift!"
"Takies what?"
"Seriously? Were you ever a kid?" Irena rolled her eyes.
"Irena, can't we use it doing something else. I can spend that five hours tutoring you."
"Why tutoring when I can have hours of dancing."
"I think you are just trying to find a way to spend time with me."
"Please Micah! Perdy Please!"
"I hate beggers the most."

"I thought you disliked stupid girls the most." Irena said, crossing her arms.
"That too." Micah said starting to walk away.
"Wait!" she yelled. "If you go back on your Christmas gift, I will tell everyone that you live with me!"
"You wouldn't dare."
"Oh yes I would. For a guy who is so self confident, you sure don't like people knowing you live with me."
"You know--"
"That you don't like unnecessary drama, blah blah blah." She taunted. "Yes I know. And I could care less what drama you get if you go back on your word."
Micah narrowed his eyes. This girl is impossible, he thought to himself.
"Fine," he said. "But it is five hours at the dance only. And if anyone asks, it's not a date. I am escorting you and that is all."
"Thank you!" Irena said jumping up and down. "I have been working on my dress all month!"

Irena ran excitedly to her room and dialed Dakota.
"It worked!" She squealed to her best friend.
"What worked?"
"Micah is taking me to the dance," Irena said with a giggle.
"Only because you coerced him to," Dakota said with an eye rolling tone.
"Aren't you happy?" Irena asked a little upset that her friend was not sharing her enthusiasm.

"I am happy for you Irena," I guess I just realized that I will have to attend the dance alone.
"Well you can still hang out with us. Micah doesn't consider it a date, I'm sure he won't even dance with me."
"Then why did you make him take you?"
"Because, he is too uptight and he needs to get out some. If Nina couldn't get him to go, then it is my duty to."
"And you get to spend time with him," Dakota pointed out.
"Well a little," she said trying to detain her giggles.
"Hopeless."
"And I'm the one to talk?" Irena asked. "You are just as crazy over Issac."
"Yeah, but at least I know I don't have a shot with him."
Irena's smile turned into a frown. "How can you say that?"
"Irena, school is almost over and we will be off to college. Issac hasn't given me one glance, plus there is Carma."
"Oh Carma!" Irena shouted. "I forgot! I heard from some girls in the bathroom that Issac has been avoiding her."
"Really?" Dakota's excitement could be heard from over the phone.

Little did Irena and Dakota know was that across town Issac was putting an end to his relationship with Carma.

"Issac, I don't understand what the big deal is?" Carma said., her lips puckered into a big pout.
"The big deal? The big deal is that you have no regard for my personal decisions. It's always about you and your wants and needs. You never think about others."
"And why should I? Everyone has to look out for themselves, right? I can't worry about every other person in the world too."
"How did I even get into this mess!" Issac threw his hands up.
"Are you calling our relationship a mess?"
"Yes, I am." He said, shaking his head. "Honestly, I thought that since you and my sister got along so well that you were nice and willing to change, but now I see that I was deceived to believe that. Nina, how did you ever make friends with her?"
Nina rolled her eyes, "I never asked you to start dating my friends. Besides, who I make friends with is my own business."
"Exactly," Carma said. "She can be friends with whomever she chooses."
Issac's eyes grew in bewilderment. Was his sister really going to side with this witch? It didn't sound like her at all.
"But," Nina interjected. "it's my fault for leading you on, Carma. See, normally I wouldn't hang around people of your kind."
"People of my kind?" Carma said, taken aback.

"The kind who live off of their parent's money." Nina said. "I have money because my dad worked for it and I plan to do the same--work for it. Things just don't get handed to you and in order to be successful, you need to succeed on your own."
"What does this have to do with you hanging around me all this time?"
"Because Micah holds the same values as me and I thought he was a part of your group, but then I realized that you just hang around him... he doesn't hang around you."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Carma said rolling her eyes. "Forget it! I don't need this. You two siblings have a nice life." Carma said before stomping away.

"What was that about?" Issac asked his sister. "You hung around her to get a man?"
"Shut up," she crossed her arms.
"You have never had a problem getting a guy before. You must really like Micah because he is unobtainable."
"He isn't unobtainable. We are alike and I really do think that he likes me. I'm sorry you dated that jerk because of me. Why do you always go after my friends?"
"Well, because up until now I had always liked your choice in friendships. They are usually passionate girls with strong beliefs. And while they don't have to be passionate about the same things as me, that passion driven life is what keeps us going. But that girl...she was passionate about herself and that doesn't have any strength in relationships."
"I think you need to quit dating my friends." Nina said with a smile. "That being said, there is one girl who seems to be quite smitten with you."
"Who is that?"
"You really don't know?" Nina's brow furrowed in disbelief.  "Iren likes you. She has been crushing on you since the first day we arrived. She is passionate about lots of things. She also seems more of your type. Even her best friend works at the animal shelter. She surrounds herself around your type of people."
"Why are you telling me this?" Issac said, bemused by his sister's sudden desire to set him up.
"Because you are my brother, Issac, and I want you to be happy." Nina said with a sigh.  "You are too nice of a guy for just any girl to date you and  I trust that she won't take advantage of you."
"I just thought she had a thing for Micah," Issac's lifted his brow.
"She doesn't have a thing for him anymore," Nina assured him. "She told me herself that she didn't like him after he had turned her down. In fact..she told me that same night that she had a new crush. She even asked me for permission since I was your sister."
"Really?" This was all news to Issac.
"Yeah," she said. "I think you should give it a shot."

The night of the senior dance had finally arrived. Micah waited outside for Irena to finish getting ready.
This girl sure does like to take her time, Micah though.  He leaned his back against the wall. How did I let her talk me into going to this. It's so stupid

Just then, the door opened and Irena shuffled out. Her eyes met the ground before they shifted up to Micah's.
"Ummm, I'm ready." Irena said softly.

"It took you long enough," Micah said pushing himself off the wall.
"I'm sorry," she said her cheeks turning pink. "I couldn't decide what to do with my hair."
"It looks the same to me."
"Yeah, I know." Irena said, shuffling her feet.
"Well even though I didn't want to go to this, I will say you look nice."

"Was that a compliment I just received from the great Micah Dastin?" Irena smiled and started to swoon.
Micah cleared his throat. "If you didn't look nice, I might embarrass myself even further than attending this immature gathering." His face held the same poker face that it had since Irena had known him. There wasn't an ounce of emotion.
"I'll still take it as a compliment." Irena crossed her arms.
"Lets go then," Micah said walking off.
"Hey, wait up!" Irena shouted and followed after him.

Irena and Micah entered the overly decorated gym. Hip Hop music blasted from the speakers. Micah rolled his eyes.
"The cliche of high school dances." He mumbled.
"What?" Irena yelled loudly.
"Nothing," he sighed and placed his hands in his pockets.
Irena noticed a few of their classmates looking their way and staring. She smiled to herself. All of these students had made fun of her for giving him a love letter, and while it wasn't a real date, she had succeeded more than any other girl at their school could say.

Carma was quick to find Nina after Irena and Micah's arrival.
"You may have been too quick to throw away my friendship." Carma said with one hand placed on her hip. "Didn't you make it clear that you were interested in Micah, and yet here they are together at the dance."
"Just because they are here at the dance together doesn't mean that they are a couple." Nina pointed out.
"Yes, but he still came after telling you that he would never attend one of these events."

"Well, I don't attend these events either, but here I am." Nina added.
"Then why are you here."
"My brother wanted to attend."
"So pathetic, he came here with his sister."
"What's pathetic is you... but I won't sit here and argue with someone with no wits. I never attack anyone who is unarmed. May I have the pleasure of your absence?" Nina excused herself, leaving Carma with gaping as she walked away.
"That Llama!" Nina heard Carma screech from behind her.

"I can't believe you got Micah to bring you!" Dakota squealed when she saw her best friend.
"It's only part of my Christmas gift," Irena said with a smile.
"But still! Everyone is going to be talking about this forever! All the girls look so pissed right now!"
"Really?" Irena said, trying to hold back her excitement.
"Carma has been giving you the stink eye since you walked in." Dakota praised.
"Well, I think she will be giving you the stink eye before too long." Irena nudged her.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean Issac has been staring at you during this whole conversation," Irena said in a low voice.
"Really?" Dakota's eyes widened and she turned and looked over her shoulder. "Oh my plumbob! He is! What should I do?"
"Let him come to you," Irena smiled. "He looks like he is trying to muster up the courage to talk to you."

"So," Micah interrupted the girls conversation. "Did we come here just to stand around?"
"Wait," Irena's eyes grew big. "You mean you will dance with me."
"It was your Christmas gift and you get five whole hours. If you want to dance, then we will dance. If not, then I guess I'll bore my self to death. So do you want to dance or not?"
"Yes!" Irena said loudly.

While they danced, Micah started out with just a shuffle from side to side.
"Seriously?" Irena said shaking her hips. "Do you not know how to dance?"
"I do know how to dance, but what ever is playing, I wouldn't even consider music," Micah said commenting on the hip hop that was mixed with techno.
"You are such an old fart." Irena rolled her eyes."Just relax. Let loose a little."
"If they played some actualy music, then I will show you how to really dance," Micah commented.
"This is a high school, Micah. Not a retirement community. Now dance."
Micah attempted to let loose, but he still looked like a plank wobbling from side to side while Irena shook her hips and twirled around him without any problems.

The music started to slow and Irena realized that most of the dancers on the floor had started to move closer one another.

"I guess that was fun while it lasted," Irena said looking from the other dancers to the floor. "I guess we should go sit down."
The distance between them felt awkward while everyone else was slow dancing.

Micah sighed and held out his hand, "If you want to dance, then I will. I did promise you anything for five hours."
"Seriously?" Irena sai. Her heart fluttered and her palms started to sweat. "You would do that."
"You can't fall for me again though." Micah said with a smile.
"Never," she said wiping her hands on her dress before taking his. "I could never like a jerk like you."

"And yet, you used your five hour gift for me to take you to this dance," Micah said.
"I only did it so I didn't look stupid without a date." Irena said, hoping Micah couldn't hear the loud pounding of her heart.
"Besides, you need to get out more and enjoy life. You are so stiff that I couldn't let you graduate high school without being a teenager."
"This may be hard to believe, but I don't feel emotions like other students. There is no point in coming to these teenage events because they do nothing for me emotionally."

Irena remained quiet. She knew Micah was about to open up to her again. It was a rare occasion, but she was always glad to hear him open up to her. It wasn't because it made her feel special in anyway, but it was because the more she learned about the way Micah ticked the more she couldn't help but to fall in love with him. It was dangerous for her to get more attached, but she also knew that Micah didn't open up often and he seemed more human when he did and less of a super smart robot.

"All the other students worry about these milestones that have no affect on me: their first date, first kiss, what to wear, sports. It never had any affect on me. By the time I had came out of puberty, I already had the maturity of a college graduate. I had always been so smart, that I never had any worries. The only person who made me waver in worry was Nina. She is good competition. Funny enough, I even enjoy the competition. While I need the scholarship, I would be happy to get it because I fought for it, not because it was just handed to me."

Irena started to feel a bit jealous. Nina had gotten his feelings to waver just by being smart enough to pose a threat. Irena could never pose a threat to Micah, not in the intellectual department anyway.

Irena was so lost in her thoughts that she had forgotten that she was dancing. She stepped on Micah's shoe and tripped almost falling backwards.
"Ahhh!" she let out as she stumbled.
"I should have known you didn't know how to dance either." Micah tskd.
"What! No I just wasn't paying attention." Irena said, trying to recover, but it was too late the moment was ruined.
"It's fine," Micah said. "I'll go get us some drinks."
Irena's lip pulled into a pout. She didn't get many chances to be close to Micah and she had really thought he was opening up to her.

While Micah went for refreshments, Irena sauntered towards her best friend.
"Oh my plumbob! You were slow dancing with Micah Dastin!"
"I know I can't believe it!" Irena squeeled. "He was even opening up to me and talking."
"Wow!" Dakota's eyes widened. "Maybe we were wrong. Maybe he could like you."
Irena's excitement dwindled and her smile faded. "I don't think so. He talked to me about Nina."
"Ouch," Dakota said, her eyes narrowed in sympathy.
"Well at least he wasn't being mean to you." Dakota said, hoping she could cheer her friend up.
"There is that," Irena shrugged. "So what about you? Issac still hasn't came over to ask you to dance?"

"No," Dakota said. "I don't know why. Honestly, I haven't seen him looking at me since the beginning of the dance. Maybe we were wrong?"
"There is no chance," Irena said. "He was definitely looking this way. Maybe he is more shy than we thought."
"Maybe," Dakota said her eyes to the floor. "I just don't think I should get my hopes up."
Irena wasn't sure what to tell her friend. She thought for sure Issac was checking her out, but she couldn't figure out why he wasn't making a move on Dakota. Boys, she thought to herself. We can't understand them and yet we need to to procreate. How has our species made it this far?

"So how did Irena drag you out to the most juvenile event of the year?" Nina asked Micah as he poured a glass of punch into some plastic cups.
"Long story short, it is part of her Christmas gift and partial black mailing," Micah sighed. "What about you. I didn't think you liked these type of things."
"I don't," she shrugged. "But my brother wanted to come and since his break up, I couldn't let him come in completely alone. Looks like we both came regardless of how much we dislike these kind of things."
"It seems like we have," Micah said.

"You know if I I did  attend these kind of things willingly, I would have asked you to the dance," Nina said with confidence. She had no problems throwing all of her cards on the table. She knew she could never get what she wanted if she didn't play the game.

Micah realized there was another presence behind him, and he had a good hunch that it was Irena. He was still slightly angry at her for black mailing him into coming, but at the same time he was also interested in Nina who he seemed to be comfortable around. She never caused problems and shared the same interests.
"If I came to these type of things, I would have agreed to come with you," Micah said coolly.

Irena overhearing him, gasped. Micah had never accepted any girls advances. Not once in the entire school's history had he wavered the slightest towards a girl.... but Irena knew there was once big difference between all the other girls and Nina: Nina wasn't a girl, but a mature woman.

"Oh hey Irena!" Nina said with a smile after hearing her gasp. Irena could feel the tension as she walked up towards them. "Are you enjoying the dance?"
"Yeah, it's fun." Irena said with a shrug.
"Here's your drink," Micah said handing her the cold beverage.
"Irena," Nina started. "I know it's your Christmas gift and all for him to escort you, but would you mind if I asked him to dance?"
"Ummmm" Irena started.
"After all, if he wasn't taking you, he would have taken me." Nina said. Irena couldn't tell if Nina was saying it sincerely or mockingly. For the first time Irena felt intimidated by her. At the same time, Irena knew that she couldn't force Micah's feelings and she had heard him loud and clearly state that he would have taken Nina.
"Yes," Irena said. "I guess your right."
Irena was waiting for Micah to tell Nina that it was her Christmas gift and that he would spend the whole night with Irena, but without a single waver in expression he said, "Then I shall have this dance."
He held his hand out to Nina, who in return smiled and took it.
Irena watched as they walked out to the dance floor. Her stomach dropping like bags of sand and her throat tight.

Nina and Micah danced, Irena couldn't help but feel her stomach tighten in fear that Micah would end up with someone else.

I don't know why it upsets me so much. He is a jerk after all, but I still can't help but dislike the idea. I shouldn't like him, and yet I do. But I can't force him to like me.  Is it okay if like him from afar? Maybe it's time that I try to move on? Can I do that?

Issac watched Irena as she looked on towards Nina and Micah. He was puzzled by her expressions towards Micah as it was his understanding that she was over him and instead was crushing on himself. But the more he saw how Micah was treating Irena, the more he wanted to show Irena that there were better men in the world. He decided then that he would pursue Irena.

Irena had enough watching Micah and Nina dancing, so she decided that she would leave the dance early.  Her thoughts were so clouded with disappointment that she didn't even realize when it started to rain.

Irena finally felt the light sprinkles and stopped to look towards the sky. Is it that pathetic that I have feelings for such a jerk?
Irena crossed her arms and continued home, but she heard patters behind her and a familiar voice called out her name, "Irena."

She turned around and found Micah chasing after her.
"Are you really going to walk out in this rain?" Micah asked. "If you would have waited, I would have called us a cab."
"I'm sorry," she said. "I guess I thought my gift was over."
"It is." he said "but my dad will kill me if I let you go home by yourself. And Tansin was very nice to let us stay in your guest wing, so I don't want to repay him by getting you sick."

Irena was disappointed that Micah's concern was insincere.
"Well, I can get home all by myself thank you and I don't need you to walk me back." Irena said crossing her arms.
"Fine, then I guess I'll just go back to the dance with the umbrella. You don't need it."

The rain started to get heavier and Micah started to walk away. Irena grabbed his arm and said with a small laugh.
"Wait," she said forcing a smile. "I will be more than great full if you walked me home."
"Fine," he said, opening up the umbrella and walking towards the house. Irena ran up underneath the umbrella and they walked together back towards the house.
It may be pathetic, Irena thought.  But no matter how much of a jerk he is towards me. I can't help but like him. I should move on from this unrequited love, but will my heart obey me if I decide to let him go?

  1. "I didn't say that." Micah said with a shrug. "I just don't put myself in that kind of situation." - Smart man!

"I never attack anyone who is unarmed. May I have the pleasure of your absence?" - Hahahhaaha! Nina FTW!!!! I love her personality and confidence. Irena is right about Nina. She's very confident and more a mature woman than a teen.

I really enjoyed Nina and Isaac's conversation. I liked the way he thinks... regarding finding someone passionate.

And so we have a love... quadrangle... or maybe it's a pentagon? Dakota - Isaac - Irena - Micah - Nina. Oh how complicated! Can't wait to see Micah and Irena's relationship evolve though. I still think they're better suited for each other - more because of their differences than their similarities. :)

    1. LOL I love your comments and I'm glad you found the humor I sprinkled in the story.

I'm also really glad that you liked Issac's idea for a passionate romance, I was afraid it would be too cheesy, but now I feel like I have went in the right direction.

As for the love pentagon, I originally didn't intend for it to happen. In fact I HAD originally intended to clear the way for the Issac/Dakota story in this chapter and had the pictures to do so, BUT the more I kept writing, the more the characters spoke to me and told me the real story. So the pictures were never used and Issac took a different path, regardless of my original plans. I plan on releasing the photos of the original idea of the episode sometime after the season ends :P

  2. Fantastic chapter. I really like Irena's dress too for the dance! I'm kinda split in Micah and Irena's relationship, it's hard to tell where it is heading!

  3. Wow, lots of twists and turns here... very interesting, liked it very much, I hope that Irena coercing Micah to go to the dance with her won't backfire, she seems oddly sweet :D
